CG Softball...coming Spring 2025!
Starting next year, girls living in our CG boundaries interested in softball won’t have to be driven out of the area to play anymore. It will be happening right here in our neighborhood! The plan for our first season is to field teams at three age levels: Farm, Minors, and Majors, which equates to ages 6-12. (Tee Ball won’t have a separate softball division, but depending on numbers we may try to field all-girls teams). Practices and home games will happen on what we’ve always referred to as the “softball field,” which is the field in Glenbrook Park (next to the playground) just outside our gates. If you’ve been over there lately though, you’ve probably noticed that the field has deteriorated over the last few years. Many thanks to Councilmember Eric Guerra and the City of Sacramento Youth, Parks, and Community Enrichment Department for agreeing to help us bring the field back into playable shape! The infield will be totally reconditioned and graded with fresh dirt, the outfield will be improved, fencing will be fixed, and new benches for the players will be installed. You should see a lot of this work begin in November.
To officially kick off softball at CG, we will be holding a free softball skills clinic at the complex in October, date TBD, for ages 6-12. More specific information on this event will be coming next month. In the meantime, if you have softball in your background and would be interested in coaching or otherwise helping us get the program off the ground, please email us. We could definitely use you! Feel free to reach out to me with any softball-related questions you may have as well. The Board is thrilled to bring this opportunity to the girls in our area, and we can’t wait to get things started!
